A magical item used by [[John Blake]] in [[Master and Student]]. It is a simple healing charm, which he reputedly found very difficult and costly to obtain, and which is designed for emergency use only.

the seal is a small piece of parchment bearing runes, lines, and circles. To use, it is crumpled up and set on fire. It burns with a brilliant white flame which is incredibly hot. To use it, John must hold the burning paper directly in his hand, and press it against the wound. This is incredibly painful. Its action is to completely immolate the user's body, with flames that are hot enough to melt soft steel. After burning up, they can emerge intact from the ashes like a phoenix.

the residue left where he was lying will closely match what would be there if the user and his possessions were burned at 2200°F for thirty minutes, although the immolation lasts only around a third of this time. Forensic analysis of the remains may suggest to local law enforcement that a body has been incinerated.

The user remains conscious throughout immolation, but is usually overwhelmed by the pain. After the flames die down, they can rise from the ashes in much the same way as the mythical phoenix.
